Creative Exploration
Children explore our rich environment within a structured flexible daily schedule including time for small group, large group, and individual activities.  Teachers plan curriculum based on
**our understanding of child development
**our observations of children's interests and engagement in the classroom, the  natural world, and their social world
**the natural world and seasons
**developmental goals and needs of children
**meaningful and relevant cultural and individual celebrations such as birthdays and holidays

Healthy Development
For most of the day, children choose from a variety of materials and activities selected to promote healthy physical, mental, social and emotional development.  Children are exposed to language and literacy every day through books and music in our literacy rich classroom.  We practice reading, writing, counting, and other beginning academic skills when children are interested within play, routines, and group activities.  Weather permitting, the children spend time outside every morning and afternoon enjoying activities such as riding, climbing, throwing and catching, balancing, swinging, digging, gardening, and chasing.
A Peaceful World
Preschoolers are very capable of learning self-help skills, being kind to others, and treating materials with respect.  We teach and practice social skills, and we help children express and release feelings that prevent them from being cooperative and kind.  We include anti-bias, conflict resolution, and ecology activities in our curriculum, and we strive to ensure our materials do not promote stereotypes.
